Nick Cannon is raising eyebrows over photos and videos he posted that shows him wearing makeup to make himself look white.

The 33-year-old rapper, radio DJ, former Nickeloden star, host of NBC's "America's Got Talent" and husband of pop star Mariah Carey says the picture shows his new alter ego, Connor Smallnut. The photo was posted on his Instagram page on Monday, ahead of the April 1 release of his new album, "White People Party Music." He is wearing a flannel over a light T-shirt, as well as a short red-haired wig and a woolen cap.

While more than 11,700 people "liked" the first picture, while more than 8,000 people "liked" the second. (See both below). Scores of people posted negative, as well as racist, comments on Twitter and Instagram in response.

"That is not funny," one user said. "You are not funny."

"Don't know if Nick Cannon is ignorant or just stupid. Wouldn't he know this would cause controversy?" another user wrote.

Canon also posted two videos of himself as his alter ego (watch them below).

"Connor Smallnut's the name, bro," Cannon says in one of them, while the other shows him mock-interviewing a black man on a street, rapping about Martin Luther King Jr.

Cannon noted that Robert Downey Jr. had sported dark makeup as Kirk Lazarus in the 2008 movie "Tropic Thunder," which also raised eyebrows at the time. He called Lazarus "one of my favorite characters of all time."

"Duuuude everybody Chil-lax!!!!" ~ Connor Smallnut," Cannon said in another Instagram post (see below).

"Damn I didn't know it was going to be this hard being White!" Cannon added on Twitter "... I'm exhausted with all this 'privilege' LOL #WhitePeopleProblems."

Cannon also retweeted a user who wrote: "I love how offended people are by @NickCannon putting on white face. It's a brilliant way to market his album #whitepeopleproblems #kudos."
