'Scandal' actor Columbus Short charged with battery

LOS ANGELES

A lead actor in the popular television series was arrested Wednesday in Claremont and is accused of punching a man at a West Los Angeles restaurant on March 15, knocking him out.

Short, 31, was released Wednesday after posting $50,000 bail, records show. If convicted, he faces up to four years in state prison.

This is not the first criminal case the actor has faced. On Feb. 14, he was charged with misdemeanor spousal battery and has pleaded not guilty in that case. About four years ago, he was charged with felony battery and pleaded no contest to a reduced charge of disturbing the peace.

Short plays attorney Harrison Wright on ABC's "Scandal." His movie credits include "Stomp the Yard," "The Losers" and "Accepted."
