Dead body found in suitcase near Glorietta Park in Glendale

GLENDALE, Calif.

L.A. County Public Works employees were cleaning out the Verdugo wash near Glorietta Park, located at 2801 N. Verdugo Rd., when they found a suitcase with a possible body part protruding at 9 a.m.

Glendale Police and county coroner's investigators responded to the scene. The coroner's office confirmed it was a male body in the suitcase.

Police said the body was not believed to have been there for an extended amount of time. It may have been placed over the weekend, police said.

The body was found in the Verdugo wash just under the bridge near Glorietta Park.

Foul play was suspected, and police opened a homicide investigation. The body was not dismembered, according to Glendale Police Sgt. Tom Lorenz.

The body was not identified. The cause of death was not immediately determined.

The workers were clearing the wash ahead of expected rainfall this week.

Police said there was no threat to the neighborhood.
