LAPD shooting: Officer released from hospital after station shooting

LOS ANGELES

Authorities say the officer, whose name has not been released, was discharged from the hospital on Tuesday night.

The suspect, 29-year-old Daniel C. Yealu of Los Angeles, remains hospitalized in critical condition.

Yealu is accused of shooting at police inside the LAPD Wilshire Division and West Traffic division office in the 4800 block of Venice Boulevard on Monday night. Gunfire struck one officer at close range.

Investigators say Yealu applied to attend the LAPD academy but was turned down. It was not immediately known when he applied. He had a license to work as a security guard, but that license was canceled at the end of last year for unknown reasons. And a permit to carry a firearm was also canceled.

Several firearms and ammunition was found during a search of Yealu's vehicle and apartment.

Yealu's bail was set at $2 million.
