OC shaking from supersonic flight, not earthquake

HUNTINGTON BEACH, Calif.

The U.S. Navy has confirmed to Eyewitness News that one of its planes created a sonic boom during a supersonic flight. It happened about 50 miles offshore during operations with the USS Ronald Reagan.

The shaking was felt just before 1 p.m. by residents from San Clemente to Long Beach.

Joe Ali with Zack's Beach Rentals in Huntington Beach says the shaking lasted for about 20 to 30 seconds.

"All of a sudden I heard this loud explosion and then the building was shaking," said Ali. "Everyone kind of looked at each other and was like, 'OK, earthquake. Oh my God, step back.' Everyone kind of stepped back and took their position."

There were no reports of damage or injuries.
