The shooting occurred at the intersection of Martin Luther King. Jr. Boulevard and California Avenue around 4 p.m.
Deputies say they were responding to a report of a person with a gun, but they have not said what led up to the shooting. No deputies were injured.
The suspect was transported to a local hospital for treatment. His condition was not disclosed.
