The official trailer for the second season of "Orange Is the New Black" was released and boy, are we in for some major drama from one of the top 13 TV shows of 2013.
Before we get into what happens in the trailer for season 2, which can be viewed here (Warning: video contains uncensored expletives), let's remember what was going on with the ladies of Litchfield in the season 1 finale. Warning: spoilers ahead if you haven't watched season 1.
When audiences last saw Piper (Taylor Schilling), she pretty much had it with prison life, was dumped by both her fiance Larry (Jason Biggs) and her on-again-off-again ex-girlfriend Alex (Laura Prepon) and was getting called the devil by Tiffany "Pennsatucky" Doggett (Taryn Manning), who was trying to kill her.
So, Piper (who was just trying to get some fresh air) really let Pennsatucky have it when the crazed prisoner confronted her outside. The finale ended with Piper repeatedly punching Pennsatucky in the face.
Outside of Piper's drama, Red (Kate Mulgrew) lost her position as head of the kitchen to Gloria (Selenis Leyva). Dayanara aka "Daya" (Dascha Polanco) is pregnant with corrections officer John Bennett's (Matt McGorry) baby, but his fellow corrections officer George "Pornstache" Mendez (Pablo Schreiber) is head over heels in love with her and thinks the baby is his. And lastly, prison administrator Natalie "Fig" Figueroa (Alysia Reiner) is probably embezzling the prison's budget money for her own use.
Check out five highlights from the trailer below.
1. Looks like Piper ended up in the SHU.
When the trailer starts, we see Piper laying down in a room by herself. It looks like she was thrown in the Special Housing Unit (SHU) aka solitary, most likely for her actions against Pennsatucky.
"I am prepared to behave like a model inmate and I feel I no long pose a threat," Piper says in a voice over, though it feels like we've heard her say that before.
It pretty much goes out the window because later on in the trailer she's threatening to rip someone's throat out. The more things change, the more they stay the same.
2. Daya and John are still an item and John is asserting himself as a corrections officer.
There's a quick scene of Daya and John getting hot and heavy somewhere (probably a big closet). There are also a few scenes of John yelling at Tasha "Taystee" Jefferson (Danielle Brooks) and slamming his hand down on a table in the prison commissary to get everyone's attention.
"You have the power," Daya tells him in another scene, "I'm an inmate. I have nothing."
3. Red might be in for some trouble.
Red, who was once one of the more powerful prisoners in Litchfield, is starting off the season at a disadvantage, now that her power in the kitchen is gone. In the trailer we see her turn a corner and stop dead in her tracks when she sees a new character named "Vee," played by Lorraine Toussaint.
"A woman I knew a long time ago came back in yesterday," she says in the trailer.
4. Speaking of "Vee," she seems like she's at Litchfield to start trouble.
After her moment with Red, we see Vee sort of hitting it off with fellow prisoner Suzanne "Crazy Eyes" Warren (Uzo Aduba). We then see the two of them stand next to Miss Rosa (Barbara Rosenblat), who has cancer, in the prison commissary and stare her down while she's eating.
"You got something to say to me," Rosa tells the two before Crazy Eyes pours water all over her lunch.
5. We get a few new prisoners.
Besides Vee, we see a few new faces at Litchfield and while one of them is getting shown around by Lorna Morello (Yael Stone), she remarks, "This is not how I imagined prison to be at all."
Netflix also posted a video (Warning: video contains uncensored expletives) of several cast members describing the new season in three words. "Orange Is the New Black" returns for season 2 on Netflix on June 6.
