Gang member in custody after Long Beach standoff

LONG BEACH, Calif.

Long Beach police said they responded to a call about a woman claiming she was assaulted by her son at their home near 60th Street and Atlantic Avenue at about 11 p.m. Thursday.

When officers arrived, they found out the suspect had been holding the woman for about an hour before she escaped. She suffered minor injuries and did not need to be hospitalized.

Police called in SWAT officers to assist when they found out the suspect was a gang member on active parole.

The suspect, whose name was not released, was taken into custody without further incident. Details on how the standoff ended were not available.
