Lupita Nyong'o's post-Oscar star continues to radiate -- she has now been crowned People magazine's "Most Beautiful" woman of 2014.
The magazine made its reveal of the annual issue on April 23, with Nyong'o gorgeously gracing the cover in natural makeup, a glimpse of a pink dress and a stunning jewel-toned necklace. The Oscar-winning actress also shared the news of the honor on her official Twitter account.
"It was exciting and just a major, major compliment," Nyong'o said to the magazine. "I was happy for all the girls who would see me on [it] and feel a little more seen."
Nyong'o's cover marks the fourth time in People magazine's history that an ethnically diverse individual has been featured on the cover of the "Most Beautiful" issue. Fellow Oscar winner Halle Berry was the first for its 2003 issue, followed by Jennifer Lopez in 2011 and Beyonce in 2012. The first ever "Most Beautiful" issue was released in 1990 and featured actress Michelle Pfeiffer on the cover.
As the cover girl, Nyong'o said she "never dreamed" she would ever receive such an honor, as she grew up believing the standards of beauty didn't fit her.
"Light skin and long, flowing, straight hair," she said, regarding what she considered to once be "beautiful." "Subconsciously you start to appreciate those things more than what you process."
She also says that her mother, Dorothy, "always said I was beautiful" and that she "finally believed her at some point."
Nyong'o's People magazine honor comes on the heels of a glowing award season. She received the 2014 Golden Globe, Screen Actors Guild Award and the Oscar for her role as Patsey in the Steve McQueen drama film "12 Years a Slave," which also took Best Picture. The actress, who is also the new face of Lancome, has also become known for her impeccable red carpet fashion choices. Check out PHOTOS of her sexiest looks over the years here.
Other actresses who made People's 2014 "Most Beautiful" list include Keri Russell, Mindy Kaling, Amber Heard and Kerry Washington.
