The incident happened around 4 p.m. Tuesday as the girl was walking home from Culver City Middle School.
Police say the suspect drove up to the girl in the area of Farragut Drive and LeBourget Avenue. He asked the girl for her name through the passenger window.
They say the suspect tried to lure the middle school student into his car, telling her, "Just get in."
The victim turned around and ran to the Culver City Teen Center. An employee there then called police.
The suspect was described as a white or Hispanic male, possibly in his 30s. He had a goatee and was driving a light green compact car.
