Eric West will not take over the role of Harrison Wright on "Scandal" following Columbus Short's departure, ABC says, following a report, while show creator Shonda Rhimes may have revealed a spoiler about the character.
Short, 31, had announced on April 25 that he had exited "Scandal," his "home for three years." The news came amid legal problems with his wife, who has filed for divorce and had obtained a temporary restraining order against him, claiming spousal abuse. Deadline had reported on Wednesday, May 7, that West, 31, will take over his role on "Scandal" in the fourth season, which ABC denied in a statement to OTRC.com. The outlet, known for numerous casting scoops that had later been confirmed, later retracted the report, saying the information it received was an "elaborate hoax."
"This is news to me.." tweeted West, whose name trended on Twitter following the initial report.
Spoiler alert! The third season finale of "Scandal" left the character's fate up in the air -- Harrison faces the barrel of a gun, held by secret service agent Tom Larson (Brian Letscher). Check out a full recap of the episode here.)
"I've never heard of Eric West," Rhimes tweeted. "Harrison is not being recast EVER."
West, an actor and DJ, was discovered by Fergie and has appeared in the 2013 movie "World War Z" with Brad Pitt. Cosmopolitan magazine named him one of 14 "Hot Actors To Watch In 2013."
The actor has also appeared on the MTV series "Hey Girl" and on episodes of "Hawaii Five-0" and the short-lived show "Quarterlife."
