How's this for a feel-good Friday?
John Travolta and actress Kelly Preston, his wife of almost 24 years, witnessed a beautiful moment at the Cannes Film Festival -- they got to see their producer Oscar Generale propose to his Dominican Republic-born Italian girlfriend, actress and model Denny Mendez, a former Miss Italy.
The emotional proposal took place at the celebrity arrivals press line at the amfAR's 21st Cinema Against AIDS gala. Both couple's reactions were captured on camera -- Travolta gave his colleague a thumbs up as Mendez became emotional and accepted, grinning from ear to ear. (See PHOTOS of the happy moment).
Generale is one of the producers of "Gummy Bear The Movie," an animated film starring the couple and their 14-year-old daughter, Ella Bleu Travolta. Travolta provides the voice of the main character, who teams up with his friends, a vegetarian vampire bat, a cat and a chameleon, to save an alien planet from destruction. Generale's production company also produced an Telecom Italia commercial that starred Travolta.
Congrats to the happy couple!
How did John Travolta propose to Kelly Preston?
In case you were wondering ... here's the story: In the summer of 1990, Travolta and Preston were spending New Year's Eve in Switzerland. The actor told People magazine that he planned to pop the question in six months but that he then saw "the most beautiful ring" at a jewelry store and thought, "Why not just get the ring now?" But he couldn't wait half a year -- that night, he got down on one knee and proposed to her, the outlet reported.
