The Ukrainian serial celebrity prankster has struck again, this time targeting Brad Pitt, and has landed himself in jail.
On Wednesday, TV reporter Vitalii Sediuk, 25, "jumped over a barricade" and "inadvertently stuck" the 50-year-old actor at the premiere of partner Angelina Jolie's new Disney movie "Maleficent" in Hollywood, California police said in a statement obtained by OTRC.com. He was arrested on suspicion of misdemeanor battery and booked into a jail, records show. Bail was set at $20,000. He and Pitt, who did not appear to be seriously injured, have not commented.
"This was an unfortunate and inappropriate incident that is being investigated by the LAPD," Walt Disney Studios spokesperson said in a statement.
At the time of the attack, Pitt was not near Jolie but rather on another part of the blue carpet, signing autographs for fans. Dozens of them had crowded near him behind a barrier. After the ambush, Sediuk was seen being led away in cuffs.
This marks the second time in less than two weeks that Sediuk has ambushed a celebrity. On May 16, he was detained by security at the Cannes Film Festival in France after he crawled under actress America Ferrera's dress. He has in the past also made headlines for kissing Will Smith, hugging Bradley Cooper in an inappropriate place and getting up on stage at the 2013 Grammys and grabbing a microphone from winner Adele.
UPDATE: Sediuk was put on probation until 2016 over the latter incident, the Associated Press reported. The news wire quoted his publicist, Christa Scherck, as saying that she had severed ties with him over Thursday's incident with Pitt.
