When it comes to auto repair shops, are women treated fairly? An undercover study by repairpal.com found some shocking statistics.

LOS ANGELES (KABC) -- When it comes to auto repair shops, are women treated fairly? An undercover study by repairpal.com found some shocking statistics.

Nationwide, women are commonly charged more than men for the same work. In Los Angeles, 20 percent of auto shops surveyed quoted higher prices for women.

Jill Trotta, automotive director at Repair Pal, has 25 years of experience as a technician. She explained that women across the country, on average, are charged 8 percent more than men for repair jobs, according to the study.

The study also found that in major markets such as Los Angeles and New York, the overcharge can be up to 90 percent.

For women to avoid unfair pricing, Trotta recommended to find a site such as Repair Pal to find auto repair cost estimates.

Experts also said to build a relationship with the people working at the shop.
