Ventura families affected by Thomas Fire receive toys from Spark of Love

VENTURA, Calif. (KABC) -- ABC7's Spark of Love toy drive was underway in Ventura Wednesday, offering the community a chance to help brighten the holidays for families affected by the Thomas fire.

The event collected new, unwrapped toys and sports equipment for fire victim families.

Walmart workers showed some toys that are currently needed for children.

Bruce Holley of Kirby Subaru encouraged people to donate to kids of all ages. Holley said that teenagers are a missing component to giving as they are often overlooked in times of need.

Ventura County firefighter Steve Swindle battled the Thomas Fire, witnessing firsthand the massive destruction it caused and the displacement of many families.

"The families that were displaced by that have lost a lot, actually a lot of them lost everything," Swindle said. "By coming out and giving, we are helping to support the community and really truly we are as human beings at our best when we are giving to others."
