ABC7 GM Cheryl Fair reads to students to promote literacy

LOS ANGELES (KABC) -- The Children's Defense Fund's CDF Freedom Schools hosted a guest reader program on Wednesday. Among the special guests was ABC7 President and General Manager Cheryl Fair.

"What a wonderful hello," Fair said in response to a big cheer from the students.

Fair read the children a work dealing with the Emancipation Proclamation.

The event's theme was "Harambee" -- an African word meaning "let's pull together."

The goal of CDF Freedom Schools is to empower children and young adults with strong reading and literacy skills.
