Simi Elementary to close permanently, board says

Simi Valley school officials on Tuesday voted to permanently close the town's oldest school next year.

The Simi Valley Unified School District board voted 4-1 to close Simi Elementary.

The school closed in February because of safety concerns, and classes were moved to Mountain View Elementary School. It would have cost more than $6 million to renovate the building.

The Board of Trustees says it will work with the community to create a plan to repair and preserve the building.
