COMPTON, Calif. (KABC) -- For the second time this week, teachers in Compton staged a sickout, staying home Friday in protest of stalled contract talks with the district.
The ongoing teacher labor tension has left many parents frustrated and concerned that their children are not getting adequate education or even adult supervision.
Some complained that the district has not been keeping them updated on the situation, while other parents came to the school on Friday to bring their children home.
"Wow that's very crazy, that they can just do that, when we trust our kids to go here to get an education," said parent Ree Nevels.
Compton Unified School District officials said nine schools were affected by Friday's sickout. They said they were aware of the planned labor action and had extra staff available to help supervise the students.
The teachers union and the district have been negotiating a new contract since before the old deal expired a year ago.
On Monday, teachers at four Compton schools staged a similar sickout and other actions have been taken at various campuses over the last two years.
