Cool Kid Christopher Cruz dedicates life to public service
Harvard-bound Christopher Cruz is looking forward to a career in public service and giving back to his community.

Our ABC7 Cool Kid for Thursday, June 26, is Christopher Cruz, who is striving toward a career in public service.

As an accomplished musician, Cruz volunteers his talents to the Ontario Chaffey Community Show Band.

"He's mature beyond his years. He's very articulate, unassuming, very courteous," said Gabe Petrocelli, a conductor. "He has all of the qualities that you would like to see in any individual."

But for Cruz, giving back doesn't stop at music. Cruz has lent a hand to food and clothes drives, his school's debate team and supporting the special needs department when it needed extra books.

"I hope that other people will continue to do service in whatever way they can," Cruz said. "My way was through the show band and community service organizations at my school."

As he graduates from high school, Cruz says his future will be both challenging and promising. He'll be attending Harvard next year and will study government and economics.

"Hopefully, that will lead me into a career of public service and politics," Cruz said.

From feeding the hungry to helping students in need, Cruz has accomplished so much at such a young age.

Now, he's setting his sights on doing more.
