Cool Kid helps raise money for cancer research
Cool Kid Morgan Davidson credits her grandma as her inspiration to give her heart, and her best, to help raise money and awareness for cancer research.

DUARTE, Calif. (KABC) -- Our ABC7 Cool Kid for Thursday, May 22, is 16-year-old Morgan Davidson.

The junior at New Community Jewish High School is a passionate volunteer for The City of Hope, a cancer research hospital in Duarte. She's organized blood drives and through a variety of events has raised more than $40,000.

Morgan began her work at City of Hope in 2009 after her grandmother, who was treated at the medical center, passed away following a battle with lymphoma.

"So that kind of struck me, and I promised her that I would help whoever I could that was in her shoes," said Morgan

After her first big event, Cuts for a Cure: "I loved it so much and I loved the feeling of giving back that I just kept going."

In 2012, Morgan opened her first club, the Ambassadors for Hope Club, at Calabasas High School. And when she transferred schools this past year, she opened a new chapter at New Community Jewish HS.

Morgan also helps raise awareness about the National Bone Marrow and NIH Human Embryonic Stem Cell registries, and is involved in recruiting people to register.

"It's about helping others and being a community and giving back. More so than doing your one little bit and being done," she said. "It's a way of life."
