Cool Kid Myles Hunter dreams of dance
Cool Kid Myles Hunter uses his passion for dance to help kids in his community deal with tough situations.

Our ABC7 Cool Kid for Thursday, July 3, is Myles Hunter, who is using his passion for dance to help members of his community deal with tough situations.

Hunter grew up in one of the tougher parts of Los Angeles. He's faced a lot of challenges, but his dream of being a professional dancer has gotten him through.

"When I get distracted, I just remember that the dream is to be in New York or in Europe dancing, doing what I love to do," Hunter said.

His determination to succeed is tested every day. His commute to school at the Los Angeles County High School of the Arts takes more than an hour.

"Take the train for about thirty minutes. Then catch the bus for another thirty minutes. My school is on the campus of Cal State L.A., so I walk from the bus stop to the school," Hunter said.

Hunter also volunteers at DeYampert Dance Academy, where he shares his focus and achievements with children growing up in the same neighborhood. He tells them that his dance lessons prepare them for a better life.

"People are going to want to work with you, because you can show that, I can work hard and that I can be that person that you can go to," Hunter said.

Hunter knows the kids are faced with choices and they could make the wrong ones. But he hopes his lessons steer them towards making the right ones.

"He's dedicated to the arts and he's dedicated to making sure that they're receiving the arts in the proper manner," said Monika DeYampert, founder of the DeYampert Dance Academy.

Sometimes children need to see there is more to life than what they see around them.

Hunter has found a way to show them that - through the arts.
