Dame Edna sparkles on stage for 'Glorious Goodbye'
For the next seven weeks, Dame Edna Everage is bringing her sassy self, purple hair and sparkly glasses to the Ahmanson Theatre.

LOS ANGELES (KABC) -- For the next seven weeks, Dame Edna Everage is bringing her sassy self, purple hair and sparkly glasses to the Ahmanson Theatre. The Australian-born storyteller is thrilled to bring her special brand of humor to Los Angeles audiences. And this larger-than-life character has been making people laugh for 60 years.

"I keep doing it because I love doing it, and I don't take it too seriously," she said. "I walk onto the stage, and I share my experience, hope and strength with my little possums."

She insists this "glorious goodbye" is her farewell tour. Her latest mantra: eat, pray, laugh.

"There is a guarantee attached to my show at the Ahmanson," Dame Edna promised. "If you don't laugh out every 30 seconds, you can apply for your money back. I'm not saying you'll get it, but you can apply."

While she's given audiences enjoyment over the past six decades, Dame Edna says she's gotten just as much back from her loyal fans. So leaving the stage will be bittersweet.

"I've lived on a tsunami of applause and laughter all my life," she said. "So I'm recording the audience reaction here at the Ahmanson, and I'll sit in my penthouse in Switzerland and listen and I'll think they loved me, those people in Los Angeles."

So will she really be able to leave the spotlight? Dame Edna says yes.

"I've thought about it long and hard, and I don't want to be one of those stars that keep announcing farewell shows and keep doing them," she said. "I don't think it's fair and I don't think it's polite."

"Dame Edna's Glorious Goodbye the Farewell Tour" is playing at the Ahmanson Theatre through March 15.
