DOWNTOWN LOS ANGELES (KABC) -- Some of the hottest new technologies and never-before-seen gaming gadgets are on display at the Electronic Entertainment Expo.

This year's E3 takes place June 16-18 at the Los Angeles Convention Center.

A highlight this year are two virtual reality headsets.

Sony's Morpheus is for Playstation 4 and allows players to feel as though they are physically inside a virtual world.

Hololens from Microsoft will be available for the popular game Minecraft, but it's also marketed for everyday use around your home or office. You could see holograms in your own environment.

Before the event kicked off at noon, we got a sneak peak with Disney, the parent company of ABC7.

This fall, Disney is set to release Disney Infinity 3.0, which will bring brand new characters to life, including those from the new animated feature, "Inside Out" and "Star Wars."

"So you actually take these physical figures that you can get at retail, and put them down on a little electronic base, and the characters come to life inside of the game," said John Vignocchi, the vice president of production of Disney Infinity.

"Having them go into the game real time, is really fun to switch them in and out as you're playing through the different maps and levels," described David Mayernik, a Disney Infinity producer.

Because it is Disney, Mayernik says there's no shortage of characters to work with.

"Now you can play Darth Vader versus Iron Man in the Toy box if you wanted to," Mayernik said.
