John C. Reilly breaks the internet in 'Wreck-It-Ralph 2'

LOS ANGELES (KABC) -- In Disney's "Ralph Breaks the Internet," lead characters and best friends Ralph and Vanellope leave behind the vintage world of video games and enter into the modern realm of the internet.

John C. Reilly returns to voice Ralph on the internet exploration.

"That was a really fun thing to explore, the ways we were going to personify these mysterious things that happen on the internet because I think I can speak for you and anyone else, none of us, except maybe technical-type people, understand really what is going on in there," Reilly said.

Reilly was directed by Phil Johnston and Rich Moore. Beyond personifying the internet, the directors also dealt with how to step it up for the sequel. The first film in the series, "Wreck-It Ralph," was released in 2012.

"We're never happy with our last one," said Moore, who had previously directed the Oscar winning "Zootopia." "We kind of keep pushing the envelope in humor, in drama, in just the technology of how we make the films."

"We wanted to make the movie relevant for the people who are going to see the movie, so I definitely think that it has a little bit more of an edge," Reilly said. "But when you move on to the real world, things get edgy sometimes."

Reilly also said being in Disney's animated universe offered him something he hadn't had before in his long career: a new, young fan base.

"It's very important to stay in touch with tomorrow's ticket buyers," Reilly said. "Yeah, that's one of the wonderful things about my career. I've done so many different kinds of movies that there's something in my career for everybody pretty much."

"Ralph Breaks the Internet" is rated PG and is in theaters now.
