Kunis goes dramatic in new film 'Third Person'
In 'Third Person,' Mila Kunis plays a woman whose life has fallen apart in a nasty custody battle with her ex-husband.

LOS ANGELES (KABC) -- In "Third Person," Mila Kunis plays a woman whose life has fallen apart. She's in a nasty custody battle with her ex-husband, played by James Franco.

"Doing those scenes with James, as emotionally exhausting as they were, they were the most gratifying things I've ever done," said Kunis. "At the end of the day you had a sigh of relief, like you had a really great day at work. You felt like you actually did something, instead of just showing up."

"Third Person" is an intricate film involving love and passion, trust and betrayal, all woven through three separate stories that may somehow connect along the way.

"It's a puzzle, if you miss something you're lost," said director Paul Haggis. "And there's so many clues I plant in before. There's little things I lay in that are just little gifts, so if you're watching carefully you can figure it out."

Haggis, the Oscar-winner who co-wrote and directed "Crash," is behind this movie too.

"I loved working with Paul," said Kunis. "I would work with Paul in anything at any point. I loved the character, I thought it was really fun and I always like it when people trust me with something that's so different than what other people want me to do."

Kunis loved the collaboration. These days she has a different kind of collaboration with her fiance, actor Ashton Kutcher. The two, who worked together on "That '70s Show," are expecting a baby.

Due to approaching motherhood, is Kunis looking at scripts differently now?

"Yes, I'm looking at locations differently. I think before, throughout all my 20s while I was working, the further away, the more exotic, the more fun it sounded," she said. "I was like, 'Yeah, I'll go away for six months to this random place and have the experience of my life.' Now, it's the opposite. Now I'm like, 'I'd like to stay home,' so location is a very big part of the next movie that I do."

"Third Person" is rated R. The film is in theaters now.
