LOS ANGELES -- The new movie "American Assassin" tells the story of a young man who is out for blood.

He'd just proposed to his girlfriend when terrorists attacked the beach, killing her and many others. Dylan O'Brien plays this young man who is eventually enlisted by the CIA as a black-ops recruit.

He's trained by the best -- a veteran played by Michael Keaton. Their ultimate goal: to stop a mysterious operative looking to start a world war in the Middle East.

"I had chills at the end," said Sanaa Lathan, who plays the deputy director of the CIA. "It's very poignant and very relevant to what's going on in our country today. And, you know, this is kind of an homage to all of those people who put their lives on the line to keep us safe and never get recognition for it."

"American Assassin" is packed with all sorts of action sequences, and O'Brien says he tried to do as many of the stunts as he could.

"There are certain things, obviously, you don't do," said O'Brien. "You're not jumping off buildings. You go about it the right way. You choreograph it. You rehearse it weeks in advance. It's a dance, you know?"

"Me? I was in the trailer," joked Keaton. "It's all special effects!"

Taylor Kitsch is also involved in the movie's fight scenes, including a wild one on water with O'Brien.

"We're both game. He's got a crazy high energy about it and he just cares," said Kitsch.

"American Assassin" is rated "R" and is in theaters Friday, Sept. 15.
