New Kids on the Block receive Hollywood Walk of Fame star

HOLLYWOOD, LOS ANGELES (KABC) -- Pop group New Kids on the Block received the 2,530th star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame Thursday morning.

Fans of Boston boys Jordan Knight, Jonathan Knight, Joey McIntyre, Donnie Wahlberg and Danny Wood turned out in droves to support the group unveil their star at 7072 Hollywood Blvd.

"I think we're completely blown away by this entire experience. Thank you!" Wahlberg said to cheering fans.

Wahlberg added that the group has come a long way in its 30 years. They released their first album in 1986 and rose to fame with their breakout album, "Hanging Tough."

"We went from playing for food and meals and prisons and high schools and birthday parties and bar mitzvahs to playing for the most amazing fans in the world, all over the world," Wahlberg said. "I would not have wanted to spend one moment of the last 33 years doing this with anyone besides this team right here. We say it often, but we are brothers."

The band broke up in 1994 after selling 80 million albums, but secretly reunited in 2007. Their latest studio album, "10," was released in 2013.

Wahlberg got a bit choked up when he recognized the most important component to the group's longevity: their fans. And he directed his closing comments to them.

"We wanted someone to share this journey with. You know, we can write a million songs, we can wear the best clothes, we can go on a million TV shows, we can do dance steps until we're blue in the face; without you it means nothing. Our 'Blockheads' are the sixth New Kid," Wahlberg said while wiping away tears.
