Sci-Fest LA features 1-act plays honoring science fiction

LOS ANGELES (KABC) -- Welcome to Sci-Fest Los Angeles, an original mix of new one-act plays celebrating science fiction.

Actor David Dean Bottrell is the festival's creator and producer.

"This is our third year," he said. "Like all good science fiction stories, this festival will not die and it just keeps getting bigger and bigger this year."

Bottrell said they can't create big special effects like you see in movies but they can do some incredible stuff with design, projections and costuming.

"That's one of the best parts about this festival is the sheer creativity of it," he added.

Sci-Fest L.A. has welcomed interesting works of science fiction since it kicked off in 2014. There's a reason artists want to be part of it.

Tim Russ, who starred on TVs "Star Trek: Voyager" is again participating in the festival.

"You're going to see the type of plays that have never been put on stage before. They're only done in this festival once a year in Los Angeles. So you have to come and see it. And it's well worth the money," he said.

Actress Angeline-Rose Troy is back for her third year. She loves how many people get involved.

"The plays all-star sci-fi actors from your favorite movies, your favorite TV shows. So, I think for the audience, it's really cool to see people that they've idolized this close and this personal," Troy said.

Bottrell said Sci-Fest L.A. aims to take you into undiscovered dimensions. He calls these one-act plays "very human stories that happen in these weird worlds."
