Shailene Woodley talks about nude scenes in 'White Bird'
Shailene Woodley talks to ABC7 at the Hollywood premiere of 'White Bird in a Blizzard' on Tuesday, Oct. 21, 2014.

LOS ANGELES (KABC) -- Actress Shailene Woodley takes on what some may consider a daring role in her new movie, "White Bird in a Blizzard."

Woodley plays a 17-year-old whose mother suddenly disappears. The film explores how she comes to grips with what happened, and it also explores her character's sexuality, with Woodley getting nude and getting involved in very adult situations.

"It's haunting. This movie's haunting," Woodley said. "I feel like it was a very real piece of work, and it explored very real themes in a very artistic, grounded way. So, to me, it didn't feel provocative at all."

Shiloh Fernandez plays her boyfriend.

"I think that using sexuality the way my character does was something that was fascinating to me," Fernandez said. "Not something that I've ever experienced, but he really does use that charm or sexuality to get things that he wants."

"White Bird in a Blizzard" storms into limited release on Friday.
