Simon Pegg searches globe for happiness in new film
Actor Simon Pegg stars in 'Hector and the Search for Happiness,' where he plays a psychiatrist searching the globe for what makes us happy.

LOS ANGELES (KABC) -- Actor Simon Pegg is known for his roles in the "Star Trek" films and the "Mission Impossible" franchise, but now he's starring in something a little different.

Pegg plays a psychiatrist who sets off on a worldwide search to find the secret to what makes us happy in "Hector and the Search for Happiness." The movie is set to open nationwide Friday and is directed by Peter Chelsom.

Pegg said he is proud of the film because it's unlike most movies that are out today.

"A lot of films now are made by committees, you know, they are sort of written by a huge group of people who continue to write it while it's being made," he said.

He traveled all over the world in this film and said it was great to be part of the adventure.

"The thing that I've heard the most from people who've seen it is the next day saying, 'I'm still thinking about it.' That is the best thing any film can do. The worst thing a film can do is be forgettable ... if a film can make you think, that's the best thing it can possibly do," he said.

On Saturday, Chelsom will be at the ArcLight Cinemas in Hollywood presenting the film with special guest and musical contributor Dave Grohl.
