FULLERTON, Calif. (KABC) -- A baby boy in Orange County was in such a hurry to be born that his mom and dad didn't have time to make it to the hospital.

The mother actually gave birth near the intersection of West Bastanchury Road and North Euclid Street in Fullerton just before midnight.

As Brad Sanchez was driving, his wife's contractions became more frequent. About six blocks away from the hospital, he pulled over.

Police arrived and helped the father deliver the couple's second child into the world.

"She started saying that she felt like she was having the contractions close together, so we were rushing to St. Jude's," said Sanchez. "She just like, 'it's coming, it's coming,' so I pulled over, called 911 and parked it and it just went. He came out."

Since dad forgot to pack a camera, an officer took a picture of the family.

"The father, he was frantic, as one would expect, and he was just very grateful for the officers and the firefighters on scene and he was ecstatic once his son was born," said Fullerton police Sgt. Kathryn Hamel.

Another officer drove the couple's car to the hospital while they took an ambulance. Both mom and baby are healthy.
