Father delivers baby boy in 7-Eleven parking lot
A Garden Grove couple ended up delivering their baby boy in the 7-Eleven parking lot thanks to the help of a dispatcher.

SANTA ANA, Calif. (KABC) -- A couple ended up with a big surprise in the parking lot of a Santa Ana 7-Eleven Tuesday morning.

Garden Grove residents Allan Su and his then pregnant wife Trisha Huynh were on their way to the hospital when Huynh started to go into labor.

"I was thinking of driving all the way to Kaiser," Su said.

"Yeah, he asked me to hold on. I said, 'No, I can't hold on anymore - pull over!'" Huynh said.

Su pulled over into the 7-Eleven parking lot and called 911. The dispatcher, Mishelle Richards, walked Su through the delivery, even when the baby came out with the umbilical cord wrapped around his neck.

"The dispatcher walked me step by step on how to deliver a baby, and she did a wonderful job of guiding me," he said.

Paramedics arrived and took the family to the hospital. Both Huynh and her newborn baby boy, Liam Su, are healthy and soon they'll be able to go home with quite a story to tell.

The fire department said this is the 13th baby Richards has helped deliver in her 20 years as a dispatcher.
