Blue Bell Creameries is cleaning and sanitizing its plants again, after it says it found bacteria in some areas.

The ice cream maker put in a new series of procedures for cleaning and sanitizing after a listeria outbreak linked to tainted ice cream contributed to the deaths of three people. The purpose was to quickly stop any type of contamination.

The company said the new procedures helped them find the potential problem quickly. Of course, listeria does occur naturally in the environment.

Last year, Blue Bell recalled its entire product line after listeria was found on ice cream containers. It has slowly been reintroducing its products in stores since the summer. The company is also under a federal investigation for its handling of the contamination.
