Bulletproof Labs offers unique fitness testing in Santa Monica
Creator of Bulletproof Coffee, David Asprey opened a lab in Santa Monica under that same name using highly technological fitness testing tools to help clients get in shape in faster time, all while measuring training results.

SANTA MONICA, Calif. (KABC) -- Amanda McVey is quick to mention one Santa Monica facility is not a gym but a lab.

"What we focus on is the brain, the body, the blood and the being. We measure every aspect of them," McVey said.

Bulletproof Labs is the brainchild of David Asprey, who developed the famous coffee with the same name. He specifically chose the equipment to help people make big changes in a short amount of time.

"Each of the pieces of equipment has a lot of research behind it individually, where we come into play, this is the first time this has ever been put together in one spot on earth," McVey said.

First up, something they call the "cheat machine," which couldn't be further from the truth.

One of their trainers performs a chest press using heavy weight, but it's the return that he fights with to control.

Then there's cardio, which plays with the amount of oxygen you receive.

"The power of this is really how we can flush the different tissues of your system from brain to muscles to even organs," McVey said.

A machine known as the cold HIIT, or high intensity interval training, allows you to get the equivalent of a three-hour workout in a mere 21 minutes using restricted blood flow and chilling your body down to 47 degrees.

"The combination of cold plus compression creates extreme lactic acid build up in the muscle bellies," McVey said.

Each machine creates the ability to get more physical bang for the buck, which McVey said cost wise is about the same as working out with a high-end trainer.

After that workout, take a whirl in their deprivation tank that uses LED light patterns and binaural beats.

"This is our virtual float tank. We can drop a body into a deep theta state, restorative meditation by leveraging light and sound," McVey said.
