A little effort on your part can make a world of difference for a child in the hospital. On Children's Hospital Los Angeles' website, you can send an electronic Valentine's Day card to any patient, for free.

LOS ANGELES (KABC) -- A few days early, but 11-year-old Kylee Postel can use a little love.

Kylee suffers from a form of Mitochondrial disease, she hasn't eaten real food for months and she can barely get out of bed.

In the next three days, the staff at Children's Hospital Los Angeles is hoping thousands of well-wishers will click on their website and send a free Valentine's Day greeting to every child in their hospital.

"I have to be stuck in a room all the time," says 7-year-old Jane Hernandez, who is dealing with some serious complications following a liver transplant. These short greetings lighten her mood.

Child life specialist Jackie Avila says the best greetings are the funny ones.

"I've seen a lot of kids who get them and they just repeat that joke over and over," Avila said.

Last year, Kylee spent 145 days in the hospital. Any amount of time in the hospital can be tough if you're a sick kid. These cards, as simple as they may be, can make a huge difference.

"I got these cards and they just brighten my day," Kylee said.

These specially-treated cards are safe even for the sickest patients.

"We keep them laminated and clean so we don't spread any germs and just so it's safe for our patients here at the hospital," Avila said.

Kylee isn't well enough to make her own cards, so she's sending this special greeting: "I wish you a happy Valentine's Day. Thank you a lot for all my cards that I got. I love them very much."
