PLAYA VISTA, LOS ANGELES (KABC) -- Our ABC7 Cool Kid for Thursday, Sept. 11, is Ayanna Neal, a high school sophomore on the path to a prestigious honor.

Neal wants to serve her community, and she doesn't let age stop her from getting involved.

"To be able to give our time as a way of donation, helping people that need help, is something really cool, because we're still making a difference in the best way that we can," Neal said.

She organized her Girl Scout troop and others to help restore a section of the Los Angeles International Airport coastal dunes.

"It's an exciting feeling that even if people don't know who I am, when they look at that, they'll say, 'Wow, a Girl Scout did that,'" Neal said.

Neal's efforts have her on the way to earning the Girl Scout gold award.

"She's really done what a gold award candidate should do, which is take lead and inspire other people to do great things for the community and make a difference," said Peggy Nguyen, preserve manager at Los Angeles World Airports.

From restoring the dunes to helping the homeless, Neal shows how much she wants to continue to help those in need.

"Community service never stops. You can never just say I did one thing, I'm done. I'm checking out. There's always something else to do," Neal said.
