All lanes of the northbound 110 Freeway in downtown Los Angeles were blocked Wednesday night after a chase ended in a crash and car fire.

SOUTH LOS ANGELES (KABC) -- A police chase ended in a car crash and subsequent vehicle fire, causing a closure of then northbound lanes on the 110 Freeway in downtown Los Angeles Wednesday night.

Authorities said the chase started around 10:30 p.m. near 113th Street, east of Main Street, in South L.A. The suspect headed northbound on the 110 Freeway and eventually crashed with a patrol car near Slauson Avenue.

Shortly after the crash, the suspect fled the vehicle and was taken into custody. The car appeared to be smoking and then suddenly burst into flames as it blocked lanes on the freeway.

Firefighters quickly put out the fire and authorities worked to remove the vehicle from the freeway lanes.

A SigAlert was issued and authorities reopened lanes around 12:35 a.m.

An officer was treated for minor injuries sustained in the crash.

The investigation was ongoing.
