SOUTH LOS ANGELES (KABC) -- One suspect died after an officer-involved shooting Tuesday afternoon in South Los Angeles and police are looking for a second person who fled the scene.

The incident began around 3:30 p.m. when an officer pulled over a car for a traffic stop in the 400 block of West Century Boulevard. Investigators say a passenger got out of the vehicle and at that point, was shot by the officer.

"During the traffic stop, a passenger-suspect exited the vehicle," said Los Angeles Police Department Lt. Chris Ramirez. "At which time an officer-involved shooting occurred."

"During that time, the suspect was struck and was transported to a local hospital. We have recovered two weapons at the scene."

Those two weapons were handguns, police said.

The suspect who was transported later died, officials said.

Police did not release his name, but family members identified him as 18-year-old Kenny Watkins.

The driver of the car, described only as a dark-colored sedan, drove off. Police are still looking for it.

It was also not clear if there were other passengers also in the vehicle.
