1 killed, 5 injured in Echo Park house fire
A person was killed and five others, including a firefighter, were injured in a fire that broke out at an Echo Park home Saturday morning.

ECHO PARK, LOS ANGELES (KABC) -- A person was killed and five others, including a firefighter, were injured in a fire that broke out at an Echo Park home Saturday morning.

More than 50 firefighters worked to put out the structure fire in a one-story home in the 1900 block of West Kent Street. The fire was located near a motel, which was evacuated as a precaution.

One man was determined to be dead inside the home. Two other men suffered burns and are in critical condition at a local hospital, while a man and woman suffered minor injuries. The pair declined to be transported to the hospital and were treated at the scene.

One firefighter was injured and transported to a nearby hospital in fair condition.

The blaze was knocked down shortly before 9 a.m.

The cause of the fire is under investigation by the Los Angeles Fire Department Arson Section.
