1 killed after crash on 5 Freeway in Atwater Village

ATWATER VILLAGE, LOS ANGELES (KABC) -- A deadly crash early Saturday closed part of the 5 Freeway near Los Feliz Boulevard in the Atwater Village Area.

The collision happened at about 3 a.m. just a few hundred feet away from a separate chain-reaction crash a few hours earlier.

Police said one person was killed when a car lost control on the southbound lanes of the I-5.

There was no word on the exact number of cars involved.

About an hour before that, emergency crews arrived to find a car trapped under a semi after a crash on the southbound 5 Freeway at the Los Feliz on-ramp.

It was unknown if there were any serious injuries.

Three lanes on the southbound side of the freeway near Los Feliz Boulevard were shut down as police conducted an investigation. All lanes were back open around 7:30 a.m.
