As Californian's waited for the clock to strike midnight, people celebrated the New Year all around the world.

Syndney, Australia, always knows how to put on a spectacular fireworks show to ring in the New Year. The unique event was watched live by more than 1 million people.

In Seoul, South Korea, celebrators enjoyed the annual bell-tolling ceremony. The bell was tolled 33 times to bring well-being to the citizens of South Korea in 2016.

In Taiwan, elaborate fireworks were set off from the Taipei 101 skyscraper.

Elsewhere in Asia, more fireworks, including in Bangkok and Hong Kong. The Hong Kong skyline lit up with a spectacular display.

At the stroke of midnight at a park in Tokyo, revelers released 1,000 balloons into the night.

Turkey, Berlin and London also filled the skies with color and sparkle all around.
