A burglary suspect was killed in an officer-involved shooting in the Hollywood Hills Saturday afternoon.

The incident happened near Nichols Canyon Road, just north of Courtney Avenue, around 2:15 p.m., authorities said.

A homeowner arrived at a home in the 1800 block of Courtney Terrace and was confronted by a burglary suspect. He said the suspect fled from the home with several items in his hand. The homeowner then called 911.

Los Angeles police officers set up a perimeter in the neighborhood to search for the suspect.

Some residents said they saw the suspect running through their yard as police in the helicopter warned them to lock their doors and windows.

The helicopter quickly found the suspect and authorities headed to the location. The suspect, who was armed with a handgun, tried to flee the scene and an officer-involved shooting occurred. The man was hit and pronounced dead at the scene.

A man named Alex said his friend heard about 10 gunshots while he was inside his home.

Authorities said two officers were involved in the shooting, but it was unclear if both fired their weapons. Neither were injured in the firefight.

Some residents said the suspect was a known homeless man in the area, and they can't believe the deadly drama that unfolded in their neighborhood.

"You never really hear anything like that happening up here," resident Jeff Fichtner said.

Another resident shared a photo of a body covered in a sheet in the area.

The investigation was ongoing. Authorities said they expected the area to remain shut down throughout Saturday night.
