LOS ANGELES (KABC) -- The Kia Sorrento was the big winner in Consumer Reports new list of the best cars for 2016, as the Korean carmaker upset the dominance of Toyota in the mid-size SUV category.
Kia's crossover was given the highest overall score of vehicles in all categories, with the magazine's editors praising its elegant interior and design.
Toyota still placed tops in two other categories, the Camry for midsized cars and Sienna in minivans.
Other winners included Subaru's Impreza for best compact and the Forester for small SUV.
Only two American models made the list this year - the Chevrolet Impala for large car and the Ford F-150 for pickup trucks.
For those looking for a flashier ride, Mazda's redesigned MX-5 Miata was judged best sports car for under $40,000.
Rounding out the list was Honda's Fit as best subcompact and the Lexus RX for best luxury SUV.
