LONG BEACH, Calif. (KABC) -- The Long Beach City Council is putting the brakes on hoverboards on some of its sidewalks.

The City Council voted unanimously Tuesday night to ban the boards from sidewalks in commercial areas.

The new rules basically mean hoverboard users will now have to follow the same rules as cyclists and skaters.

Councilmembers say they hope the hoverboard ban will help keep sidewalks pedestrian-friendly.
