ANAHEIM, Calif. (KABC) -- A robbery suspect accused of holding two Subway employees at knifepoint in Anaheim is in stable condition after an officer-involved shooting on Sunday.

Anaheim police responded to an unknown trouble call around 2 p.m. in the 1100 block of W. Lincoln Avenue after a woman tried to whisper to a 911 dispatcher that she was in trouble.

Upon arrival, officers spotted a male suspect taking two female employees to the back of the Subway business at knifepoint, Anaheim police said. According to authorities, the incident was a robbery in progress.

A perimeter was established, and police said the suspect did something inside the restaurant that caused the officers to make entry and fire.

The suspect, later identified as a 33-year-old transient man, was struck by police and transported to a nearby hospital. He was expected to survive.

The two victims, while traumatized, were not hurt, police said.
