LOS ANGELES (KABC) -- A program designed by the Southern California Committee for the Olympics is celebrating its eighth year of motivating healthy students in the Los Angeles Unified School District.

Ready, Set, Gold! helps pair former Olympic athletes with LAUSD students to teach them proper health and fitness techniques.

Currently the program has 50 former Olympic athletes working at 60 LAUSD schools helping to combat childhood obesity.

The program is positively affecting an estimated 17,000 students every year.
