MARINA DEL REY, Calif. (KABC) -- Los Angeles County sheriff's officials were investigating a shooting that left a man injured in Marina del Rey Sunday afternoon.

The shooting happened near a parking lot at the intersection of Via Marina and Panay way, according to the LASD.

The victim, who is said to be about 45 years old, was transported to a nearby hospital in unknown condition and was rushed into surgery. He suffered a gunshot wound to his torso, according to authorities, but is expected to survive.

It was unclear what led to the shooting, but witness Miriam Ginzburg said she didn't hear any gunfire or see a suspect when she found the victim.

"I saw a man in the bush and he had what looked like a bullet wound to his chest and also to the groin area," she said. "I stopped the car and I got out and I started calling the police and I asked them to send an ambulance out. He was still alive and he was groaning."

No suspect information was provided. The investigation was ongoing.
