An armed suspect wanted for kidnapping and assault with a deadly weapon has been taken into custody after a lengthy barricade in an East Los Angeles home on Wednesday, sheriff's officials said.

Officials said the man was transported to a local hospital with a gunshot wound, but the full circumstances and his condition were not immediately available.

The incident began when deputies with the sheriff department's Special Enforcement Bureau were sent to a residence in the 6400 block of Northside Drive shortly before 11 a.m. Officials warned people to stay clear of the area.
