1 dead, 1 injured in single-vehicle crash in Santa Clarita
Santa Clarita sheriff's deputies say speed appears to be a factor in a single-vehicle crash that left one person dead and another injured Monday night.

SANTA CLARITA, Calif. (KABC) -- One person was killed and another injured in a single-vehicle crash on a busy roadway in Santa Clarita Monday night, authorities said.

Sheriff's deputies say the driver behind the wheel lost control of a newer-model Nissan and hit a tree and possibly a light pole near Centurion Way and Bouquet Canyon Road around 11:50 p.m.

One person was pronounced dead at the scene, and the second victim was transported to Henry Mayo Newhall Memorial Hospital in unknown condition.

Investigators say speed appears to be a factor. The relationship between the victims is unknown. The cause of the crash remains under investigation.

Bouquet Canyon Road was temporarily closed between Central Park and Heidi Jo Lane.
