Many outdoor enthusiasts dream of hiking the length of the Pacific Crest Trail through California, Oregon and Washington, but this year a portion of the trail is closed off because of damage from a massive fire.
The trail, known as the PCT, is a 2,700-mile stretch that starts at the Mexican border and winds its way up to Canada. The trail was the setting for the 2014 movie "Wild."
But just north of Whitewater, a 15-mile piece of the trail is closed because of the devastating Lake Fire that erupted in 2015 and burned 32,000 acres.
The detour is a minor setback, but the small stretch of trail through the San Bernardino Mountains should reopen as early as next month.
